How do systematic restrictions influence the legibility and form of letters, and
ultimately the entire typeface? This is a project of experimental practice, investigating the effects of limiting the components of a systematically build typeface and varying them on readability and visual perception.

Highwayman is a typeface developed in 2024. Its design is inspired by classic serif fonts found in ancient Roman inscriptions and 19th-century American typography, interpreting them in a contemporary form. Characteristic of the typeface are the pronounced, long, and sharp serifs.
